Students from the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) have once again achieved a remarkable accomplishment at a prestigious national competition. The UGM delegation\u2014comprising Akbar Dwi Febrian as delegation chair and Selvia Fida Zalfa and Aidea Nanda Hanifa as members\u2014won first place in the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI) held as part of the LAPS SJK Law Fair (LLF) 2025. This competition was organized by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute for the Financial Services Sector (LAPS SJK).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition\u2019s theme was \u201cConsumer Protection in Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Financial Services Sector to Achieve Legal Certainty and Substantive Justice.\u201d Under the guidance of Airin Liemanto, S.H., LL. M., the UGM Faculty of Law team presented an academic paper titled: \u201cOptimizing the Use of the Consumer Protection Portal Application (APPK) through the Implementation of a Decision Trees System as an Effort to Address Suboptimal Consumer Protection in Dispute Resolution at the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institution for the Financial Services Sector (LAPS SJK).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The competition consisted of two stages: a paper selection round and a final round. The UGM Law School delegation was selected as one of the top five finalists out of a total of 25 national delegations that advanced from the preliminary round. The final round was held in person at the Griya Perbanas office in Jakarta on Saturday, August 2, 2025.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the final round, the FHUGM team presented an innovative idea regarding the integration of decision-tree-based legal technology into LAPS SJK\u2019s APPK service. This solution was deemed capable of addressing various challenges in resolving consumer disputes more quickly, fairly, and accurately. The panel of judges\u2014comprising LAPS SJK arbitrators, academics, and practitioners from national legal journals\u2014highly commended the UGM Faculty of Law team\u2019s analytical acuity, originality of ideas, and quality of presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This achievement also reflects the UGM Faculty of Law\u2019s tangible contribution to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The innovative ideas presented through the use of legal technology align with the spirit of improving access to justice for all segments of society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, the spirit of collaboration, solution-based research, and an inclusive approach to consumer protection strengthen efforts to achieve a more just and sustainable legal system. This competition also serves as a concrete manifestation of the implementation of SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, through synergy among academics, dispute resolution institutions, and the financial services sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The LLF 2025 event also featured a national seminar and discussion forum with experts in financial sector law. This event served as a strategic platform to equip students with practical insights into non-litigation dispute resolution, which is becoming increasingly relevant in the evolving landscape of Indonesian law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
