Prof. Adrianto Dwi Nugroho, S.H., Adv.LL.M., LL.D., was officially appointed as a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), in the field of Corporate Tax Law on December 1, 2024. The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday (June 12, 2025) at the Senate Hall, UGM Central Building, and was attended by the academic community, colleagues, and stakeholders in the fields of law and taxation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This inauguration marks an important milestone not only in the advancement of tax law scholarship but also in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities. Prof. Adrianto\u2019s academic contributions to international tax issues focus on advocating for a more equitable global tax system for developing countries, thereby helping to balance economic relations among nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his keynote address, Prof. Adrianto addressed the topic of the Global Minimum Tax (GMT) within the framework of John Rawls\u2019s Theory of Justice. According to him, a theory of justice that emphasizes freedom and a commitment to the less fortunate can serve as a normative foundation for formulating inclusive international tax policies. This perspective aligns with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which promotes transparent, ethical, and equitable tax policy practices at the global level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her remarks, UGM Rector Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K), noted that Prof. Adrianto is now one of 532 active full professors at UGM and one of 15 active full professors in the Faculty of Law. She noted that this achievement further solidifies UGM\u2019s role as a higher education institution committed to strengthening public policies that prioritize global well-being. This, of course, reflects SDG 4: Quality Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Prof. Adrianto also highlighted the importance of synergy among academics, regulators, and global economic actors in establishing a fair tax system. This reflects the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which promotes cross-sectoral and cross-national collaboration in effective and sustainable international tax reform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this inauguration, the UGM Faculty of Law reaffirms its position as a pioneer of critical thinking and policy solutions in the field of tax law, while expanding its contribution to promoting a more just, inclusive, and sustainable global economic governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
