On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Dr. Khotibul Umam, S.H., LL.M., a lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was appointed as a guest lecturer in a public lecture held by the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (UI). The public lecture, themed \"Islamic Economic Law vs. 'Conventional' Economic Law: Competitive or Complementary,\" was aimed at students in the UI Faculty of Law extension class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his presentation, Dr. Khotibul Umam presented a variety of materials related to Islamic Economic Law and Conventional Economic Law. He outlined various objections in Islamic economics to conventional economic practices and explained the schools of thought that have influenced the development of Islamic economics, both globally and in Indonesia. He also outlined a number of solutions offered by the Islamic economic system through various alternative contracts that can be applied in economic transactions. Dr. Khotibul also highlighted current issues that remain challenges to the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although the public lecture was conducted online, this did not diminish the enthusiasm and active participation of the participants. This public lecture was expected to enhance students' understanding of the differences in the characteristics of Islamic and conventional economics and encourage critical thinking in analyzing both systems. Furthermore, this lecture was also expected to foster students' academic abilities to connect theory with practice, thus better preparing them for the application of Islamic economics in the real sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The active participation of UGM Faculty of Law lecturers in academic forums supports UGM's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), by contributing to expanding access to knowledge about comparative economic systems. Furthermore, the public lecture discussion on Islamic and conventional economics also aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), which promotes an inclusive and sustainable economic system. The collaboration between two renowned universities also aligns with SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
