This victory was achieved on Wednesday (February 5, 2025) at the University of Indonesia, in a competition organized by the University of Indonesia Notarial Studies Master’s Student Association.

The delegation from the Notarial Studies Master’s Program at the UGM Faculty of Law consisted of five Notarial Studies Master’s students: Muhammad Nuur Rohmaan, S.H. (2023), Dina Mila Prasasti, S.H. (2023), Riza Alya Utami, S.H. (2023), Arum Mahdavikia, S.H. (2024), and Muhammad Ihsan Hidayatullah, S.H. (2024), as well as one student official from the Notarial Studies Master’s program, Rarasati Fadiyah Kusumawardani, S.H. (2024). The delegates were accompanied by Rio Kustianto Wironegoro, S.H., M.Hum., acting as a notary and practitioner.

The competition consists of three rounds: the preliminary round, which includes administrative screening and deed screening; the semifinal round, which involves the presentation of deeds and supporting documents; and the final round, which consists of a notary practice simulation. In the preliminary round, the delegates were given a case study to complete within one week, and the results had to be submitted in both hard copy and soft copy to the competition organizing committee. During this preliminary round, the delegates did not work alone but received guidance from Notary-PPAT Rio Kustianto Wironegoro, S.H., M.Hum. The delegation drafted five deeds during the preliminary round: a Marriage Agreement drawn up by a Substitute Notary, a Deed of Incorporation of a Limited Liability Company, a Loan Agreement, a Fiduciary Pledge Deed, and a Lease Agreement. The deeds and supporting documents prepared by the delegation totaled 415 pages.

In the semifinal round, 10 delegations were required to present their deeds and supporting documents. There was only a one-day gap between the announcement and the presentations; however, starting three days before the semifinal announcement date, the delegations remained optimistic and had already prepared the PowerPoint presentations they would use. The presentation was limited to 10 minutes and was conducted via Zoom Meeting before a panel of three judges consisting of practitioners and academics. This was followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session. The strategy the delegation prepared for this presentation was for each member to master one deed; this proved very helpful during the Q&A session, as all questions posed by the panel of judges were answered effectively.

In the semifinal round, five delegations were selected to advance to the final round, one of which was the UGM delegation, which placed second. In the final round, the assessment will focus on the Notary Practice Simulation. From the five deeds that had been prepared, on the day of the competition final (February 4, 2025), the deed to be simulated was randomly selected, and the UGM delegation was assigned the Marriage Agreement deed. Delegations were given 5 minutes to set up the props in the room. The simulation lasted 25 minutes and included the Opening Stage (welcoming remarks and introduction of the notary to the parties, verification of the parties’ identities, Purpose of the Deed, and Legal Counseling), the Drafting and Reading of the Deed Phase, the Ratification Phase, the Handing Over of Copies, the Recording in the Repertory Book, and the Jury Deliberation session, which took 15 minutes. During the simulation, the delegation was able to read the deed from the title to the end in its entirety.

Ultimately, having successfully completed these stages, the delegation from the UGM Notarial Studies Master’s Program secured 2nd place in the competition. This achievement exemplifies quality education aligned with the 4th point of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Author: Dina Mila Prasasti, S.H.
