The Master of Laws Program (MIH) and the Master in Laws (LLM) Program of the Faculty of Law, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized an orientation program for new students of the 2024 cohort. Held over three days, from Wednesday (14\/8) to Friday (16\/8), the program aimed to prepare students for academic life and their upcoming studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second day of the MIH and LLM orientation for the Class of 2024 introduced students to library services at both the UGM Faculty of Law Library and the UGM Central Library. Students also participated in a session on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and on student codes of conduct and academic ethics including an important discussion on the importance of maintaining a campus environment free from sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunarno, S.I.P., M.A., introduced the Faculty of Law Library, which spans three floors: the first houses print journal collections, magazines, newspapers, and a study area with internet access; the second holds print book collections, faculty research publications, and other references; and the third contains student final works in print and digital formats, discussion rooms, and private study spaces. Students were also introduced to the Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) service, as well as plagiarism checking and research reference services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janu Saptari, S.I.P., then introduced the UGM Central Library, covering access to national and international legal journals and other social science publications, and giving students a hands-on demonstration of how to access these resources for their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Wiyanti Eddyono, S.H., LL.M.(HR)., Ph.D. addressed the Tri Dharma, student conduct, and ethics. She emphasized the three pillars of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Education, research, and community service, and stressed the importance of a healthy campus environment free from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, encouraging physically and mentally healthy lifestyles. On the issue of sexual violence prevention, she noted that UGM has had a Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Task Force (Satgas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual) in place since 2022. All new students are expected to understand this policy and to actively contribute to a campus free from bullying, harassment, and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its commitment to creating a safe campus environment, UGM has implemented a Sexual Violence-Free Campus policy. Sri Wiyanti Eddyono emphasized that UGM has established a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence since 2022 as a concrete measure to prevent and address cases of violence. New students are expected to actively understand this policy and contribute to creating a campus environment free from bullying, harassment, and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a solid understanding of library services and campus policies, new students at the UGM Faculty of Law are expected to adapt well and contribute to creating a healthy, safe, and conducive academic environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
