On Tuesday (27\/02\/2024), the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) held a Suluh Praja legal outreach event in Gulurejo Village, Kulon Progo. This activity was aimed at improving the community\u2019s legal understanding, particularly regarding legal service mechanisms, Islamic inheritance law, and the management of village communal land. The event was also conducted to support the achievement of the <\/span>Sustainable Development Goals <\/span><\/i>(SDGs).<\/span><\/p>\n

In the first session, the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) High Prosecutor\u2019s Office presented on the mechanisms for accessing legal services and provided insights into mitigating legal risks related to administrative, civil, and criminal matters. A discussion was then opened to give participants the opportunity to ask questions and discuss legal assistance in the implementation of development activities carried out by the government.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Hartini, S.H., M.Si., who discussed the pluralism of inheritance laws in Indonesia. Dr. Hartini explored the differences between Islamic inheritance law, customary law, and the Civil Code. During this session, the importance of consensus-building in resolving inheritance disputes was emphasized, along with the rights held by heirs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next, Sartika Intaning Pradhani, S.H., M.H., explained village communal land (TKD) and the regulations governing its use. During this session, she provided a detailed explanation of what TKD entails, the procedures for its use, and the rights and obligations of the relevant parties.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the Q&A session, community members could ask questions regarding various legal aspects previously discussed. Clarifying these questions aimed to provide the community with a better understanding of their rights and obligations within a legal context.<\/span><\/p>\n

This legal education session was not only intended to enhance the community\u2019s legal understanding but also to support the achievement of the SDGs. The material presented at this event is highly relevant to SDG 16\u2014Justice\u2014which emphasizes the importance of access to a fair and inclusive justice system.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Suluh Praja Legal Education session in Gulurejo Village is a concrete step toward building an inclusive and sustainable understanding of the law for the community. We hope this event can make a positive contribution to raising public legal awareness,\u201d said a representative from the Faculty of Law Universitas Gadjah Mada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through collaboration between the Faculty of Law Univesitas Gadjah Mada and other relevant parties, it is hoped that such outreach programs can continue to be conducted to provide a broader understanding of the law to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n
