For the first time, Indonesia sent its delegates in the biggest United Nations session simulation in the world, Harvard World Model United Nations (HWMUN) in 2009. UGM was proud of the eleven students who involved in this occasion represented for Indonesia in Den hag, The Netherlands, from 22-27 March 2009.
There were 11 students of UGM participating in HWMUN 2009 in the Netherlands.
One of the extraordinary things in the Model United Nation was that each participant had to be a diplomat from other country. Thus, it could not be denied that before the event was conducted, every participant was very busy doing researches on the country s/he would represent.
In this competition, delegations from Indonesia showed their diplomatic capabilities. In some committees namely WTO, General Assembly (DISEC, SOCHUM, SPECPOL, LEGAL), and WHO, they took a role as diplomats from East African country named Djibouti. Together with 2,541 participants from 53 countries, every committee had to make 5 resolutions within 5 days. Such situation was what the real diplomats of United Nations dealt with.
HWMUN is a prestigious event. At least there are 2000 students fight every year to win Delegation Award and Diplomacy Award in this competition. This year the awards were won by MUN of Society Belgium and Universitas La Hore-Pakistan.-
